Melissa Schmitz, MA

 

Melissa Schmitz is a theatre artist and arts administrator. She is an original member of Bramble Theatre Company and has worked for numerous theatres across the country, including Milagro, Shattered Globe, Court Theatre, the Belmont Theatre District, SteppingStone Theatre for Youth Development, and In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre. 

 

Her main interests of practice are acting, writing, and directing. Her main interests of study are Greek Theatre, Shakespeare, and costume history.

 

In 2022, she launched the 101 Stage Adaptations podcast where she has interviewed some of today's top playwrights and theatre makers including Eric Coble, Lauren Gunderson, Kate Hamill, Mike Lew, Karen Zacarías, and Mary Zimmerman.

 

Ms. Schmitz recieved her Bachelor's Degree with a double major in Theater and Spanish from the College of St. Benedict. She earned her Master's Degree in Theatre from the University of Hawaii at Manoa

 

In addition to theatre, Ms. Schmitz is a student of dance, particularly ballroom and Mediterranean dance. She is a lover of dance history and her specialized areas of study are Romantic Ballet, the waltz, and the German Expressionist period.
